THE FRIENDS OF PEASMARSH PARISH CHURCH
Miracles Do Happen
It is sometimes easier to focus on what divides humanity than what unites us. But we believe that every one of us is driven by a desire to develop a relationship with a higher power.
By caring for our beautiful Church we are helping ourselves as well as the fabric of the Church.
The Friends of Peasmarsh Parish Church (FOPPC) charity was founded in 1991 in order to raise funds for the restoration and improvement of the fabric of this beautiful and historic church.
The Norman Church dates from about 1070 and was probably built on the site of a pre-existing Saxon Priory and there are parts of the church which remain almost unaltered since Norman times. Needless to say, it regularly requires physical repairs, redecoration and restoration to keep it safe and beautiful for all those who want to come and visit it or take part in Services.
Over the last decade, the Friends have contributed over £165,000 towards essential repairs to the fabric of the building which has required extensive building works to repair subsidence damage to the foundations of the chancel and major repairs and re-tiling to fix the entire roof. The Friends also helped with financial support for the recent repair and restoration of the organ which had been incomplete for many years.
More recent projects transformed the “stable” into a new modern kitchen, and in addition to upgrading the existing “loo”, to build 2 additional toilets (one of them conforming fully to disabled requirements) and with baby changing facilities, where the old mower store used to be.
We hold a number of concerts and other fundraising events each year. We also receive funds from the sale of cards, membership subscriptions and donations, for which we are immensely grateful.
We are entirely dependent on voluntary support and 100% of donations made and profits from FOPPC activities go towards the upkeep of the special and historic church at Peasmarsh.
